Acai bowls the latest superfood health trend

September 23, 2021MelanieUncategorized

Acai bowls have been one of the most recent health trends in the United States, but why?  Acai is a palm fruit that has been around for thousands of years.  Acai berries are found in the rain forests of South America.  They have been found to have many health benefits and high nutritional content.

Acai can be found as a berry as a puree or as a powder. The puree can be found in the frozen fruit section in most grocery stores.  Acai is thought to help strengthen immune systems, lower bad cholesterol, and promote weight loss.  Most acai bowls are noticed for their vibrant rich colors and not their antioxidant-rich nutritional content.

Acai bowls blend well with many different foods.    Most acai bowls are made with the base of acai, milk, or juices.  They then are topped with berries, granola, nuts, seeds, then drizzled with honey, nut butter, or even chocolate.  Be careful some of the bowls can be high in sugar and calories depending on what is put in them.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup of apple juice

1 large banana sliced

1 1/2 cups of frozen berries

1/2 cup vanilla greek yogurt

1 tablespoon honey

acai berry puree (100 grams)

INSTRUCTIONS

Place the apple juice, banana, frozen berries, yogurt, honey, and acai puree in the blender.

Blend until thoroughly combined and smooth.

Pour the smoothie into 2 deep bowls.

Arrange the desired toppings over your smoothie bowls and serve.
