Our Story
ExercisAbilities was founded in 2011 by Melanie Brennan, PT, DPT. Dr. Brennan identified a problem that needed to be solved – people of all ages with neurologic or medical conditions that impacted their physical mobility, cognitive awareness, and overall health needed a place to go in the community where they could continue their rehabilitation after they finished their initial care at Mayo Clinic. Individuals with disabilities were not able to access the same care that able-bodied individuals could and their health was suffering. They needed a place that was accessible, had staff who understood their needs with multiple different disciplines available and had the right kind of equipment to help them achieve their goals. Ongoing exercise, recreation, and rehabilitation are key to keep moving forward, not backward, in the rehab recovery process. After working at Mayo Clinic for 11 years in acute brain and spinal cord injury rehabilitation, Melanie conceptualized a place that would meet all of these needs. She set to work to build ExercisAbilities. Over the years it has grown into a full-service rehabilitation and fitness facility and now includes neurologic recovery, nutrition services, adaptive fitness and recreation, pediatric services, pain management, orthopedic physical therapy, occupational hand therapy, speech therapy and so much more.
Our Mission
Making healthy, happy, and independent possible for EVERYONE!
At EA, we empower better health for all!
Our Vision
We believe that our community will achieve optimal health when persons of all abilities have equitable community access to lifelong supportive therapeutic health promotion services.
ExercisAbilities is proud to be a nonprofit, 501(c) (3). We have a vision that our services and resources will be available to all that desire to improve their quality of life, despite any accessibility issues or financial hardship. EA staff deliver services at high levels of fiscal responsibility and work to find every resource possible to cover the cost of care. We strive to keep our fees as low as possible, providing services according to a sliding scale fee to those in financial need if their services are not covered by other payors. We are excited to be a valued partner in health care in Rochester and Olmsted County. Seeing the difference that we make, improving the health and quality of life of so many in our community is our why.
